Frederik Johannes ‘Frits’ Jansen was born in The Hague on the 20th of January 1856. He worked mostly in The Hague and was a student at the Academy of Arts between 1874 and 1879. After finishing his artistic education in The Hague he travelled to Paris to study under the French academic painter Léon Bonnat (1833-1922).
